Updates for July 2026
Announcements! We have announcements! Some of these are badly overdue, but I’ve been dealing with some worse than usual health issues this month, and I’m so glad I’m finally able to get this out to you. It’s going to be a little bit of a mishmash this month, but here we go…
New on the Bookshelf #1
I think I talked about this story once a long time ago. I can’t even tell you when, so I don’t expect anyone to remember. But the KDWC auntie team has been working on another anthology for a while now, and I’m so glad it’s finally out in the world! (Not going to lie, my story was one of the hold-ups for a long time, but I think it came out well in the end.) I’ve read and enjoyed all the rest of the stories in this anthology, so if you’re looking for a bunch of sweet vacation reads—and I don’t necessarily mean summer reads; they take place all through the year—be sure to check this collection out!
If you’re interested in my story specifically, it’s titled A Change of Stations, set in the early 1900s, and centers around a formerly wealthy girl with a whole lot to learn about life. Mamie is possibly one of the most dramatic characters I’ve ever written—I found myself laughing out loud at some of her overwrought statements while I was writing them—but I’m proud of the lesson she eventually learns. If you get a chance to read it, I’d love to hear what you think too!

Not sure if I can guarantee this every month, but I thought it might be fun to share a random out of context snippet from what I’ve been working on:
“Don’t think of that, dear.” Bianca’s eyes shone with so much understanding that I feared for an instant that she had pierced my veil entirely, but her next words proved that she had only guessed at Vintana’s poverty, not my standing within it. “You’ve no need to bankrupt your kingdom for King Ricardo’s ridiculous schemes. If he will draw us all here, the least he can do is pay the messenger to inform our families we’ve arrived in safety.”
So Bianca also thought the scheme a ridiculous one, though the word had been spoken with more teasing affection than scorn. Did she herself see how well-matched they were and wish the king had gone to her father direct rather than constructing this hornet’s nest of ladies that could not but end in a sting of disappointment for one if not more of its occupants?
